WHOOP DEE DOO’s mission is to utilize collaborative art and live performance as tools to connect communities.

ABOUT

WHOOP DEE DOO is an artist-led project that creates installations and live performances internationally at universities, festivals, arts organizations, museums, schools, public parks & more. Each project engages the immediate communities of the institution with which we partner, and we work closely with youth and community organizations to research, conceive, and create our programming. Our process emphasizes collaboration and seeks to initiate cross-generational creative exchange.

Since WHOOP DEE DOO’s inception, we have offered 100% free arts programming and live shows to the public. 

Founded in 2006 in Kansas City, MO, WHOOP DEE DOO (WDD) was created in the format of a public access variety television show with the purpose of bridging disparate creative communities within Missouri. Since incorporating into a worker self-directed 501c3 nonprofit in 2021, WDD has kept its ethos and practices as an “artist project” while utilizing its non-profit model to establish lasting support for the long-term vision of the organization.

In 2013, WHOOP DEE DOO moved it base to Brooklyn, New York, operating without a brick-and-mortar location and instead running programming at partnering institution’s spaces on a project-by-projects basis. This allows for WDD to travel both nationally and internationally as an organization that adapts and immerses itself within each project’s location.

WHOOP DEE DOO believes that collaborative art-making creates meaningful conversations that bring our communities together. We work to support and amplify our collaborators' unique and important contributions and the power of the collective.

Our programming is designed to welcome our collaborators as fully engaged participants by creating spaces that are accessible to people of all ages and skill levels.
