WHOOP DEE DOO’s Brooklyn Bridge Park Space
Brooklyn, NY | 2023

About the Show

For two glorious months, WHOOP DEE DOO was given a beautiful storefront space in Brooklyn Bridge Park through Chashama's small business program. WHOOP DEE DOO artists spent 5 weeks on a unique build-out of the space to run our arts programming along with an ongoing performance series. Additionally, WHOOP DEE DOO artists fabricated a building facade at the entrance of the space that served as "WHOOP DEE DOO's store", selling one-of-a-kind pieces, including t-shirts and ceramic haunted practical items.  The space's design took inspiration from 1980's bingo halls, but with a twist-- our bingo hall was haunted! The space served both as an active studio space as well as the venue for our very first NYC fundraiser.

In addition to the inaugural “Haunted Bingo” event, our space was also inaugurated with a spectacular show that featured collaborators with traditional Korean drummer and dancer Vong Pak, performance artist Joseph Keckler, and terrifyingly fun moments created by WHOOP DEE DOO's artists.

Our "Haunted Bingo" story began with a giant, lonely bloodworm living in the bingo hall, who called on her tuxedoed maggot friend to awaken the spirits within its walls. The live audience participated in the show, winning haunted prizes from a host of grim reapers, all while serenaded by the amazing Joseph Keckler, who brought the giant haunted worm to life. Fortunately, the powerful performance by Vong Pak managed to defeat the hauntings, allowing the WHOOP DEE DOO space to thrive… until it didn't.

Our programming was intended to continue as a monthly haunted bingo performance series, produced through community workshops open to public participation. However, we had to vacate the space sooner than expected to make way for another business endeavor. Despite the fact that we lost the space far too soon, the productions we achieved in this short time were truly amazing!
