About the Show
This installation and performance was created for the regional curated exhibition Heartland. “The exhibition featured site-specific installations and performances as well as drawing, photography, and video by artists and artist groups who are working in—and in response to—Detroit, Kansas City, and other cities and rural communities across the region. Organized by the Smart Museum of Art and the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, NL, one of Europe’s premier contemporary art institutions, this exhibition offers an idiosyncratic look at the innovative forms of artistic creation taking place in the American Heartland.”
For the exhibition, eighteen Whoop Dee Doo artists worked for two weeks to create a multi-room installation and viewing room. In conjunction with the show Whoop Dee Doo held a live performance at Chicago’s Experimental Station. Youth from Blackstone Bicycle Works worked daily with Whoop Dee Doo artist to create the stage set and props.
